WOW! What a book! This is truly the ULTIMATE fashion study guide. Finally, a book that outlines all you need to know about how to bring a clothing line to fruition, laying it out in an easy to follow, step-by-step process. It not only includes information on how to design and draw your clothing line, with invaluable tips and illustrations to generate inspiration, but how to present it in a meaningful, powerful way to teachers or buyers. What’s more is it provides all the templates and croquis for each body type in all markets so you can overlay and accurately design clothing to scale. The comprehensive CD provides printable templates as well. The fashion industry can seem overwhelming and quite complicated, but this book systematically breaks it down into a reasonable order with several illustrations and bullet points rather than long continuous paragraphs without pictures (designers are visual!!). This is the place to begin to learn not only about the world of fashion design but to use as a reference throughout your career. A necessary read for anyone considering a career in fashion…worth every cent!

This book was sent to the International Academy of Design and Technology in Nashville right after it was published at the end of 2007.

After reading through it, I decided to use if for my Fashion Design 1 textbook. And what a difference it has made!

Ms. Hunter’s work is clear and easy-to-understand without being condescending. She has a really firm grasp of the BUSINESS of fashion and never forgets to discuss marketability as an integral part of the design process. She also builds one topic upon another in a logical progression through the book allowing a cover-to-cover read that makes sense.

This is a book my students never sell back to the bookstore!

Get the copy with the CD-ROM- it has easy-to-print-out croquis, flats templates, and info cards for vendors and makes it so you don’t have to tear out pages of the book or try to use a two-sided page over a lightbox.

I would recommend this book for anyone beginning their study of fashion design.

Now, if she would only write a version for advanced students!! I am languishing for what to use for Fashion Design 2!
