This is my go-to reference book for fashion school. Just as you can’t write a sentence without knowing a word, you can’t design or interpret design with out having this book. It’s well organized and offers good definitions and illustrations to help you understand the terms. Its only downfall is that there aren’t illustrations for everything, but that said, they aren’t always necessary. Any Fairchild book is an excellent and reliable resource.

A great dictionary with every kind of fashion and clothing terms, which can help you out if you’re a student, buyer, designer, marketing manager or just someone who’s interested in fashion. I don’t give it a five, because I believe that there should’ve been included some more pictures to show how different types of garments and parts of garments look. It may be hard to imagine e.g. a special type of collar with just the words that describe it. The visual part is so important in fashion and clothing that it has to be adopted even more than is the case in this dictionary. I believe that this sometimes might constitute problems for somebody who is a complete novice in the field, and has bought the book to learn more about fashion and clothing. But I emphasize that there are pictures in this dictionary, I just believe that there should’ve been even more.

I’m a fashion freak, and interested in fashion design, so this book is very useful to me. I can look up all of the design terminology and see what different things mean. I’m also interested in fashion writing/journalism, so it’s nice to be able to use the correct terminology when writing about fashion. If you are in the fashion industry, plan on working in fashion, or just love fashion, this is useful to have.
