My daughter likes it but there are some design flaws. First, too many little parts to get lost. Second, the dresses don’t fit the figures well so the little extra pieces have to sit on top at odd angles and are easily brushed off by little hands. The magnets are too weak to work through the backgrounds and the bodies. Only the dresses and the case itself are magnetic so it does not work well at all. I expect that it’ll last a week or two before most of the pieces will be lost and the toy will be useless. Disney can certainly do better.

We got this toy for my three year old daughter. Most of the pieces are extremely tiny and the magnets are weak so they don’t stick. The accessories don’t fit due to poor design; for example, the dolls can’t wear a necklace at the same time as a dress. It is easy to predict that no matter how careful, these ridiculously minute pieces will get lost in a short time. I’d recommend passing on this one.

This kit comes with a storybook and a magnetic play set inside a plastic carryall tote.

    BOOK

“Cinderella” on one side, flip the book over and “Beauty and the Beast” is on the other. I would say they are written at about first or second grade reading level.

“Beauty and the Beast” is only six pages long with colorful illustrations on every page. Obviously, a very shortened version of the original tale, but it does get the gist of the story.

“Cinderella” is a little longer at 8 pages with half of each page devoted to illustrations.

    PLAY SET

The play set is comprised of magnetic sheets of princess dolls (Cinderella and Belle) and fashion dresses and accessories and cardboard scenes. There are a lot of pieces to be punched out of the magnetic sheets. Many of them are tiny shoes and necklaces.

The case is lined with magnetic sheets on each side. The children are to place the cardboard scenes (there are four sheets of cardboard with scenes on the front and back) on top of the magnetic sheet inside the case so that the magnetic dolls, dresses and accessories will stick on the scenery. The magnetic strength of the accessories is rather weak, but they do stick to the dolls and background in this manner.

This set would be improved if the scenes were made of metal or magnet so that it would not be necessary to lay them inside the case.

    SUMMARY

I am not sure of the play value of this set is. My daughter has only played with it once since her sixth birthday.

I bought this for my three year old daughter imagining them to be like Colorforms. The magnetic pieces aren’t very strong so they don’t cling all that well. The dolls, dresses, accessories and small characters all come on a sheet which the consumer must tear out. Unfortunately they aren’t punched out all the way through. Small children will not be able to do this. Even I had trouble getting them out and tore a few. There are way too many small parts and if you have younger children in the home you may want to save yourself the trouble and just pitch them or you will be finding them in their mouths and diapers.

I received this magnet book as a present for my 3 year old daughter. She loves this book and can be engaged with it for an hour at a time. She plays with it in a similar way as I did with paper dolls as a child. There are 8 play scenes and the Cinderella and Bell “doll” with three dresses for each, the mice and bird friends for Cinderella, and many, many accessories (shoes, gloves, necklaces, hats, etc.). All of the accessory magnets are rather small. I have limited the amount of accessories she has access to and monitor her play, so she doesn’t misplace an accessory and her baby sister find it first. I am surprised at how extremely careful she with the book and how gentle she is with the magnets. I would suggest an adult getting the magnets off the magnet page the first time as the magnets are thin and you wouldn’t want them torn (I don’t think it would be too easy to tear it, but taking that precaution wouldn’t hurt). I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish there were are few more large dress magnets and less tiny accessory magnets, but overall I’m very pleased with this product. I would love to see a similar product for other Disney Princesses, particularly the Little Mermaid which is my daughter’s favorite.
